Lunar Boy and Beer!
The opening for Lunar Boy gallery's Beer group show is coming up on August 14th and I've got work featured!
I had a great time creating this guy and an especially great time painting the frame to go with.
Also, I live in Texas now. That is all.

Striking Out Stroke, and more.
I've been creating these spot illustrations for a monthly newsletter called News in Health, published by the NIH. The current issue and back issues are here. The topics are of course all health related. My first challenge was to delicately illustrate Bipolar Disorder and Stroke.
Major Ups and Downs (bipolar disorder)
Strike Out Stroke (stroke)
"Too Young for Hot Flashes?" (primary ovarian insufficiency)
"Fun Summer Days" (summer health)

Nick Cave (Not That Nick Cave!)
So I've just been turned on to one of the most colorful and creative artists working today, Nick Cave.
His soundsuits are colorful and from another planet. From the descriptions of his soundsuits, I'm supposed to be hearing them. But I can't help but fall in love with their visual splendor. They're just so playful and take me to a world I want to be in.
Here's some of the suits and do yourself a favor, go and look at this video that features a look at some of the creation and movement of the suits, not to mention a thorough slideshow.

From Wikipedia:
Nick Cave (born 1959 in central Missouri, USA) is an American fabric sculptor, dancer, and performance artist. He is best known for his Soundsuits: wearable fabric sculptures that are bright, whimsical, and other-worldly. He also trained as a dancer with Alvin Ailey. He resides in Chicago and is director of the graduate fashion program at School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Fallen Queen Monday - RuPaul's Drag Race finale Extravaganza!
So, the long awaited finale to RuPaul's Drag Race is tonight. I'm sure they'll post it in full on logo.com, like they have been, but I for one can't wait until tomorrow! The preview looks very exciting.
I've been busy whipping up the girls. We'll start with my most recent drawing. It's the sketch of the final 3! Good luck Tyra, Raven and Jujubee! Don't fuck it up!
Next, we have some catching up to do!
First up, it's Tatianna. Princess Tati was finally dethroned on Episode 9 - The Diva Awards
Then, the first two ladies to go, were Shangela on Episode 1 - Gone with the Window
Annnnd, From Atlanta, Georgia, it's Nicole Paige Brooks. She packed her bags on Episode 2 - Starrbootylicious.
Only one more drawing to go! Going to wrap this series up with the final 3 illustration you see above. It's been a fun ride ladies! (and gentlemen too).

Fallen Queen Friday - Pandora Boxx
I'm not gonna lie, Pandora was my favorite. I'm really sad to see her go. Pandora's Boxx got blocked on Ep. 8 Golden Gals (full episode!)
"Only one drag queen can be America's next drag superstar!"
This was a fun episode filled with lots of surprises! Pandora looked absolutely adorable and the older gals do really well!
Only 4 queens left ... it's getting close ladies, don't fuck it up!

Fallen Queen Friday - Jessica Wild
Jessica is a huge fan favorite, with her infectious smile and care free silliness! She was swiftly taken out this week on Ep. 7 Once Upon a Queen
"Only one drag queen can be America's next drag superstar!"
Juju took the other ladies to the cleaners on the shade contest and Tyra was a close 2nd place. And in the words of Raven, she "finally won a *BLEEEEEP* challenge".
Only 5 queens left ... it's getting close ladies, don't fuck it up!

My Mom Thinks I'm Cool
My parents visited my display at Art Whino's event G-40: The Summit yesterday!
I'll be there this Thursday fixing up my wall. I think it needs some extra style, how about you?

Fallen Queen Friday - Sahara Davenport
Sahara was on point for a big part of the race, but she didn't satisfy the judges needs on Ep. 6 Rocker Chicks (Link to full episode)
"Only one drag queen can be America's next drag superstar!"
Sahara was quite the beauty in her tutu. Poor Juju was a damn mess. Get it together gurl! It'll be alright. Pandora and Raven were favorites again! And Henry Rollins?!
Coming up soon, the ladies I missed, Shangela and Nicole. I didn't forget you.

Attend Countdown to Yuri's Night 2010!
Coming in April! There will be girls and booze and art! Tickets at outofthisworldparty.com
Here's the back with more info too.
What is Yuri's Night?
April 12, 1961 Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin embarked on the historic first manned space flight.
Twenty years later on April 12, 1981, the US launched the first space shuttle flight.
We think that's something worth celebrating!
Every year on April 12, Yuri's Night parties are held all around the world; it's like the Cinco de Mayo for space. Visit Yurisnight.net for a list of worldwide parties.

Fallen Queen Friday (Monday Edition) - Morgan McMichaels
Morgan is such a piece of work she took me some extra time to complete. But here she is.
Even though she wasn't the prettiest girl, she had a compelling look that I couldn't turn away from.
Morgan got left at the altar on last Monday's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race Ep.5 Here Comes the Bride.
"Only one drag queen can be America's next drag superstar!"
Raven got robbed. She's always composed and always flawless. She looked absolutely stunning in white and teal.
I considered drawing Morgan in her bridal look, but I think the "Gone With the Window" look is her most iconic. What do you think?

Fallen Queen Friday - Mystique Summers Madison
Well I got lucky! There wasn't a new episode of Drag Race this week. So I got to spend some extra time on Mystique Summers Madison.
Mystique split (pun intended) a couple weeks ago on RuPaul's Drag Race Ep.3 Country Queens. She just plain refused to put on a cowgirl hat and cuntry it up.
Again, Pandora Boxx is a highlight with her smokin' pregnant mama. And Raven looked SMOKIN' hot in her pin-up outfit. So smokin', I just might have to say smokin' again. Smokin'.

Fallen Queen Friday - Sonique
In the coming weeks, I'm going do something fun and illustrate the drag queen that got her ass sent home on the most recent episode of RuPaul's Drag Race.
Sonique fell out of favor with the judges of RuPaul's Drag Race this week on Ep.4 "The Snatch Game". It's no wonder, that Lady Gaga impression she did was the pits. It's a shame though, I thought she was the prettiest.
Tatianna and Pandora Boxx do incredible impressions of Britney Spears and Carol Channing, respectively.
I have missed a few, so those will be sneaking in as we go along. Remember Ladies, "Don't F*** it Up!"

Mary Blair - Phenomenal Artist
Mary Blair (October 21, 1911 – July 26, 1978), was a phenomenal artist. Her work has influenced tons of contemporary illustrators including myself. Her facebook page was kind enough to share a flickr group that posts pictures and images of her work. Everything is full of style and rich with color. Such a wonderful artist. Here's some images below, but you can find the rest of the pool here. She's truly one of my favorite artists.

Settling in to my new home!
Hey Folks! I've just recently packed up my crap and moved over here to Blogger. I think I'm going to be happier with the communal aspect, it's surprisingly lonely hosting your own blog.
I discovered whilst moving over here that WordPress' export files won't play nice without a spin through Wordpress2Blogger. It was super handy in converting my posts.
And now, Purple Rain.
