The Chipettes were always my favorite part of Alvin and the Chipmunks, aside from the theme song, that is. I watched every time, mostly hoping that the girls would be on. Not only were they way more charming, their character designs were top notch and deliciously 80s. I've always had a special place in my heart for leg warmers. Veteran animator Corny Cole did the original design for the girls in 1983 and this is my take! Check out a larger version and some details on flickr!

I'm also excited about this image because it represents a place I've been trying to get stylistically and I consider it a breakthrough. More in this vein, I promise!

  1. Those gals are great Alan! If you were going for a Bill Wray or Miles Thompson look, you nailed it!

I'm a Noob and dont know how to hyperlink in a comment, so here are the two URLs:

  2. Hey Jared! I wasn't going for either, but I appreciate the introduction to a couple of great artists. I arrived here via Mary Blair and James Flora really.

I am a bit familiar with Bill Wray via his Ren & Stimpy work, what great colors!

And don't worry, your links automatically worked themselves out. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Alan,

Jost stopped by to see what you've been up to, naturally i am more than pleased that your focus has turned towards the Chipettes! Keep up the good work, your stuff is looking amazing.
